The Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement is open for applications by Australian aged care providers. The aged care industry labour agreement makes it easier to recruit from overseas to bring in direct care workers Employers can use this in cases where Australians with the requisite qualifications are not available.
Access to this labour agreement is subject to employers first entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the appropriate industry union(s). At RACC, we can make enquiries on your behalf with your employer and discuss this with you further.
What is the Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement all about?
- Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa in direct care occupations in the following:
- Nursing Support Worker
- Personal Care Assistant
- Aged or Disabled Carer
- Sponsor overseas workers for permanent residence via the employer nomination scheme (subclass 186) visa program
- To be eligible for Skilled Workers, the minimum requirement of experience is 2 years of full time work experience in Australia in the relevant direct care occupation. The two years of work experience does not relate to a specific employer or visa subclass.
Terms and concession of an Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement
Summary of exemptions to requirements for a standard skilled visa:
- Employer Nomination Scheme pathway to permanent residence in 2 years
- Priority processing of visa applications and streamlined visa nomination
- does not require work experience after graduation
- Concessions on English language for workers with certain community language skills
- a minimum salary of $51,222 AUD per year, or Australia Market Salary Rate- whichever is highest
Sponsorship: Key visa application requirements
- have a qualification that is at least an AQF Certificate III or higher equivalent OR,
- possess one year of related work experience, or part time equivalence AND,
- either as a PCA or Aged care worker.
This will assist you in enrolling for a Certificate III of Individual Support or Certificate IV in Ageing support course if you are willing to begin a career in this field.

If you got your qualifications overseas, you must have a Successful skills assessment from either the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council or the Australian Community Workers Association. The same goes for if you are using work experience as a substitute for the formal qualifications.
Your English language proficiency level of at least IELTS 5.0 or equivalent. Workers with target community language skills employed by culturally and linguistically diverse aged care providers need at least IELTS 4.5 or equivalent. An IELTS of 5.5 or equivalent is required for the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.
