Parent Visa Applicants Can Now Manage Paper Applications Online: Here’s How

Table of Contents

24 April 2025 – Good news for those applying for a Parent visa to Australia!

While the initial application for a Parent visa still needs to be submitted using a paper form, the Australian Government has introduced a new feature that makes managing your application much easier.

Now, once your paper application has been acknowledged by the Department of Home Affairs, you can import your application into your ImmiAccount. This simple step opens up access to a range of online services designed to save you time and improve your application experience.

What You Can Do After Importing Your Application

By importing your paper-based Parent visa application into ImmiAccount, you’ll be able to:

  • Upload supporting documents directly online, without the need to send physical copies
  • View and respond to messages from the Department of Home Affairs faster
  • Update your personal details conveniently if there are any changes
  • Monitor your application’s status in real time

This change applies to both new and existing Parent visa applications—with one exception:

If you lodged a Parent (subclass 103) visa application before November 2018, this new service unfortunately won’t be available for you.

Why This Matters

Managing a visa application has often been a time-consuming process, especially when relying on traditional paper correspondence. With this update, applicants can enjoy the convenience of digital document management, faster communication, and real-time updates—all critical for such an important life decision like migrating to Australia to join family.

How to Import Your Application

To help applicants, the Department has provided a step-by-step guide on how to import a paper application into ImmiAccount.

You can find this guide on the official Apply and manage your application page of the Australian Immigration website.

Final Thoughts

This move towards more digital services reflects Australia’s ongoing efforts to streamline its visa processes and offer better support to applicants. If you have submitted a paper Parent visa application recently—or plan to do so soon—it’s worth taking advantage of this new online management option.
